DDS to JPG Converter
Convert DDS to JPG using a real file encoder. Control resolution, sharpening and color adjustments, plus lossy quality where supported.
Why convert DDS to JPG?
Use JPG when your next application needs sharing photographs and compatibility with older image applications. DDS can carry GPU-friendly texture formats, but this converter supports uncompressed DDS input, not arbitrary BC1/BC7 or other compressed textures.
The converter decodes the DDS image, applies your selected size or appearance adjustments, and writes JPG output. JPEG suits photos and broadly compatible uploads, but it uses lossy compression and cannot store transparency.
Before you download
- This output does not preserve the source transparency in this implementation; choose a suitable solid background.
- Only the DDS variants supported by the local decoder can be opened; many block-compressed game textures are not supported.
Instructions
- 1
Choose a DDS image stored on your device.
- 2
Adjust any displayed resizing, background or quality controls, then convert to JPG.
- 3
Download the actual JPG file and inspect its appearance before discarding the source.
About this tool
Convert DDS to JPG using a real file encoder. Control resolution, sharpening and color adjustments, plus lossy quality where supported.
Transparency is composited on a selectable background color. Browser image decoder support varies.
Practical questions
What changes between DDS and JPG?
The tool decodes a DDS image and encodes its pixels into a new JPG file. Changing the extension alone would not perform this conversion. The browser must successfully decode the source format before the export can run.
What should I check before using the result?
JPG/JFIF uses lossy JPEG encoding and cannot preserve transparent pixels. Choose a suitable background and adjust quality to balance file size against visual artifacts.
